OK, I'm stumped! This is our environment:
- A clustered file server running between two Windows 2012 servers ( cluster share \\cfs1 )
- Three domain controllers running Windows 2012 (DC, DC2, DC3)
- A mix of mostly Windows XP machines with some Windows 7 and even some Windows 8.
As of today, only the XP machines get this error when trying to access that server via file share (\\):
\\cfs1 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
Logon Failure: The target account name is incorrect.
I can however access the share from any Win7/8 and by IP from the XP machines. I've already dug around and did the most common suggestions. On each of the domain controllers I ran "netdom resetpwd /s:server /ud:domain\User /pd:*" and reset all the passwords and also ran a "dcdiag.exe /e /v" and had everything pass. I also ran the specific "dcdiag.exe /test:DNS" and had all the DCs completely pass.
I've power cycled both of the servers in the file server cluster and all of the domain controllers, and a test XP system, but I still get the same error. I can ping the FQDN of CFS1 from the XP machines and do reverse NSlookup by IP (after flushing dns); so, I can't think it would be a DNS issue. I'm at a loss as to what is going on here and why it all of a sudden happened. I didn't change anything over this weekend and everything was working fine on the XP machines last Friday.
Please, does anyone have any idea what is going on here? I don't want to have to rebuild my cluster (or actually, I'd just migrate the data to 2008R2 if I can't count on 2012 file server clusters to stay accessible to XP).
Thanks!
