I'm looking for the proper procedure in using the downgrade rights that come with Server 2012 to upgrade Server 2003 to Server 2008 but I'm having absolutely no luck.
These are the steps I believe I have to take. If I'm missing or am wrong about any of them please correct me as this is the first time I am undertaking such a task.
1. Purchase volume license for Server 2012 R2
2. Download Server 2008 Standard ISO which we have previously purchased for another client in the volume licensing center
3. Burn the ISO to a DVD
4. Insert the Server 2008 Standard DVD into the server to be upgraded while in the OS.
5. When asked for the key during installation, punch in the newly purchased and unactivated Server 2012 R2 key.
Does that sound right?
