Well I have been looking around figuring out how to get off this mixed nt/2003/other domain and services and move to something new and more importantly uniform across the company.
I glanced at 2012 essentials but it seemed too limited and we are brushing on that 25 user limit. Could do some special stuff with it then do an in place up to the 2012 standard to keep all the funky little wizards but I don't really need them as 2012 standard seems fine with it.
Could go with sbs 2011 premium add-on and do hyper-v 2008 with the sbs server running inside it plus then I could keep the 2003 server up just for the legacy sql program. Still sbs has sql abilities so could port it in likely.
Then the way I am leaning towards: hyper-v, 2012. Then would it be best to then create a separate VM for the AD/exhange server together, 1 each, or just pile it all on the first VM. I am likely to convert the 2003 box to VM to use for its SQL database support for legacy but it will be absorbed into the new domain.
Still I have heard that hyper-v host and AD may not play super well so was wondering how I should make this play out or if that isn't as much a problem anymore. I also don't really care about the user accounts and stuff. There is so much trash I am going to just redo them by hand so everything is relevant.
Gonna be a bit more expensive on the last one but at the same time it will let me get everything directly under my control so I can get it running correctly and stably for the next 5-7 years.
