Hey there'
Our fileserver is getting pretty unstable and we need to install a new one. The current one is a server2003 virtual server.
My embarrassing question is, can I just make a new server with the same name and IP and then move the files to that server, shut down the old one and all is well? There are some networksdrives pointing to some of the folders on the clients machines. I know, that when both servers are running at the same time, I need to have the new one named something else and then rename it, when the old one is shut down, so that is not the issue.
I might be paranoid, but there is no GUID or other ID's that comes into play here, just simple networknames, when we are talking fileshares? It runs no services or applications to speak of, just a simple fileserver.
Thank you for your help :-)
