DFS from a different domain

We have some offshore developers that computers joined to domain xxx.com (The offshore consulting company) trying to get on our DFS that is on yyy.com domain. They are VPN'ing into our domain for access.

The offshore team does have accounts on our domain too. They are all in a security group.

There is just one folder buried in our DFS share we need to give them access to. I added that security group and let it add the permissions for a while.

They still have no luck.

We tried pointed them to the UNC path \\DFSserver.yyy.com\groups\folder and \\yyy.com\groups\folder and no luck.

Looking in share and store manager for Groups DFS share I see the security group listed but with no access checks. I said fudge it, we need this fixed and gave it at the groups level too.

LOTS of files and folders so it is going to take a LONG time so I told them I would check back today. Still nada.

I even had them try doing a Mapped drive with "Connect using different credentials" no dice. Thinking their xxx.com domain was trying to use those creds.

while on our VPN they can get onto our sharepoint sites just fine after entering their user ID and password.

They have high latency for being offshore, so I am thinking DFS timeouts, since UNC does not work but websites do?
