Have company going from 2003r2 to 2008r2 can do 2012 right now. I am new to doing this but know I can do it just want as much advise from the pros I can get.
2 servers already in place one main DC the other is a backup dc. 2003r2
I need some direction on how to accomplish this move to 2 new 2008r2 servers.
I have found this article and want your opinion on if the steps are exactly the way i need to follow to get what I want done. http:/
ANY OTHER ARTICLE LIKE THIS YOU ALL RECOMMEND WOULD GREATLY BE APPRECIATED :)
I want to change the name of the servers this article show me how to keep it the same how do i change the name and in doing so do I have to change the domain name?
I have run dcdiag and netdiag on the main dc and all is good so correct me if I am wrong that means I am good to go with the move right?
I dont need to do that on the other server correct because to create the new number 2 server I just need to install server os and install roles and theN once the main one with the fsmo roles is up and running it will replicate with the other correct?
All of my shares are on the 2nd server do they need to be on the main server when creating the new one ? Or put back on the new 2nd server?
What is the easiest way to bring over the shares? Does that bring over the permissions as well or do i need to just go to the root of each share and record the privileges and the mimic them on the new server's?
Or do i create them on my own since I only have 5 ?
I have about 25 network printers some are one the main old DC and the rest are on the 2 old DC server would it be best to install the print server role on the 2nd new DC and put all printers there?
Does the printer migration tool 2008 work well or is it better to just do it manually? If manually does that mean i need to go to each users station and reinstall?
Once you do the procedures above in the article all the login script and gpo will be brought over from the old and will be made to work in the 2008 environment correct?
Sorry for so much but I want to be detailed in my planninig?
