Hello all,
I am in the final steps of a file server migration. Our old file server is our last Server 2003 holdout and we are anxious to get rid of it. I have spent my spare time in the last few weeks copying and reorganizing folders from the old server to the new with Robocopy and a nightly script that syncs everything once it has been copied over while the original server is still in production.
I would like some suggestions on how to handle the change in hostname. We have a LOT of stuff in our software programs, copier scan folders, home directories, shared folders, etc, that are all referencing the old server's hostname which has been around for a very long time. Would it make more sense to:
a) Put a redirect in DNS so anything that references the old server's name gets forwarded to the new server, which should have the same folder...
