We're trying to come up with a perfect solution for our next file share server that will be highly available. We've tried DFS, and it's entirely too buggy and is off the table for now.
Our infrastructure basic concept is as follows: 6 sites all connected with 'meshed' fiber optic layer 2 network, 2 sites being data centers. Data center A is the main one with Vsphere 5.5 and an Equallogic SAN. Data center B is the DR site which also has Vsphere 5.5 and another Equallogic SAN. All sites can see all other sites in the meshed fiber optic network.
What I'm trying to accomplish is a 2012 R2 failover cluster with FS01 at site A, FS02 at site B. FS01 would have a direct iSCSI connection to a LUN (for the file share itself) at site A, and FS02 would have the same idea at site B. Then DFS-Replication would keep the two shares...
