We have been tasked with setting up monitoring for changes made in Active Directory and on our File Server folders, using third party software or otherwise.
Other members of the team have suggested setting up the monitoring on a Linux Server to do this. This is predominantly a windows environment and the servers to be monitored are windows. Im thinking, monitoring windows from windows is a better idea? I feel using a different OS is just adding an extra layer of complexity/administration. I might be wrong?
Has anyone setup monitoring windows from Linux and are there any benefits drawbacks to this?
What sort of software were you using for this?
Thanks
