I have 3 domain controllers in a single domain. Two are 2003 standard sp2 and my FMSO role holder is server a 2008 R2. All 3 are GC's and the domain and forrest are at a 2003 level.
All are virtualized in a VMware 5.1 environemnt on and EMC SAN
DC2 has not been replicating Ntfrs and has started to cause issues with losing permissions with files shares and SQL databases. I've tried all the repair options on this with no luck so I'm planning on demoting it and then promoting it back again in an attempt to repair Ntfrs replication. I'm just looking for advice on what I need to watch for when demoting this domain controller since it has multiple roles. It is our main file server and has several network shares. Also it handles DHCP for half the IP range on the subnet, and secondary DNS.
DC1 - 2008 R2
FSMO GC AD DNS File
DC2 - (failing frs replication)
2003 GC File Print Application DNS DHCP AD
Demoting and promoting to fix failing frs replication.
Handles half of the DHCP request
DC3 - Exchange
2003 GC File Application DNS DHCP AD
