Please forgive me if this is a dumb question,
I am considering getting a new Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials server and I have a few questions an how it will effect our current network environment.
currently we do not run AD or a domain controller. We have (2) windows storage servers that are used for sharing data.
I understand that by adding the 2012 R2 Essentials server to the environment I would be able to user the added features of an AD and domain controller. My question is can my old servers, (1) 2000 storage edition, (1) 2003 Storage edition be added to the AD and domain or will I need to upgrade to retire these servers?
