I'm trying to setup this scenario and think I'm overlooking something. I'm not to familiar with child domains and am not very in dept with AD. So bare with me.
Company A has 3 locations.
Location 1 is the main office building. Location 2 is our company outside the us, and Location 3 is our backup data center.
We want a Domain Controller setup companya.com, us.companya.com, outsideus.companya.com
I have found that in order to create the child domains after you create companya.com, you have to add two more servers to add them rather than creating them on the DC it'self... Am I overlooking something on this? When I create the two child domains us.companya.com and outsideus.company.com I can add work stations to the domains, however, the child domains aren't actually domain controllers, however, if I shutdown the server that i added that is the "child domain server" the workstation then can't authenticate to it. am I overlooking the setup of this? I'm looking for a redundant way to set this up so if one server fails the other is still up for authentication. I figured the companya.com domain controller would handle this.
