File Server migration: Windows Server 2003 STD SP2 to Windows Server 2012 STD R2

Hi,

Our current File Server is running with Windows Server 2003 Standard SP2 on a Dell PowerVault 745n (old school) and has been experiencing a lot of problems for the past few months and would restart randomly. I've contacted Dell for tech support, ran hardware scans which everything passed, amongst other things, but if I let it be and not install or transfer anything it seems to stay "up" for quite a while. Recently I've tried, again, to transfer data off the file server to an external drive or another server and it crashes on me. That being said, we purchased a new Dell PowerEdge R320 running Windows 2012 Standard R2 to replace our old File Server but I'm having a difficult time transferring all our data without it rebooting midway through the transfer! I've used Robocopy, MS File Server Migration Toolkit v1.2, and they both would have errors and not transfer all the data. Our Symantec Backup Exec hasn't worked in a while either so I can't use that to restore on the new server (which after buying the W2k12 R2 server I found out there still isn't any full support with Backup Exec 2012 unless you install a Windows agent, which doesn't help me right now anyway). I looked at using DFS replication but it's not supported or compatible on 2003, at least not between 2003 and 2012.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a third party tool that can replicate pretty quick while keeping all the security permissions and also continue from the last file if it temporarily loses connection with the old file server? We have user Profiles, Documents, and everyday Data to move which is close to 3 TB total.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

Regards,

James
