I have a 2008R2 Standard VM that I was testing on moving the VHDs w/out export as I will need to move my PDC VM soon in order to rebuild my Hyper-V server into 2012R2. I have already moved one VM's VHD w/out export w/out issue and was trying on another to make sure things moved smoothly.
I just moved the VHD, started it up with everything set up as a new VM, updated integration, and for some reason the NIC was giving me issues to the point that I removed the NIC, left it disconnected, started it up, gave the static IP, gave it a connection, and all was good.
Then I went to access the root domain share (\\domain.local) and it states that it can't access and asks for credentials. I re-enter my domain admin account and it won't connect as the username/password are incorrect. then I get a notification that my domain account has been locked out.
I'm thinking that something is going on with AD and figure I'll remove from the domain, delete the tag from AD and then add back to the domain. added to workgroup, then went into AD and noticed that the tag is disabled...? enabled server tag, added back to domain, and I still can't access \\domain.local
what's weird is my network shares are all mapped...users can still scan-to-file/email via this server...everything works...yet I can't access \\domain.local...I issue a command to gpupdate /force and it states everything is updated w/out issue...typical GPO items are changed/applied. One thing I did notice is if I enter \\domain.local\Public, I can access it...but only the drives that I have mapped show up...NETLOGON and SYSVOL shares work as well...
So I then shut down the VM and started the original VM up and same thing...can't access \\domain.local...
Anyone with any thoughts on this? This makes me really nervous to move my PDC now...and the reasons for my needing to move the VM w/out export is that per MS you shouldn't export a DC...also my PDC's drive is too large for it to be exported in any timely manner...this also has implications for my File/Print share VM that has over 1TB of drives...that would NEVER be exported...
