So we are running on an old custom ASP intranet last maintained about 5 years ago. Needless to say it is getting very old and starting to have quite a few issues. I have no programming experience so we are going to bring in a company to provide a solution for us. The majority of our current intranet is group pages with links to files on internal servers or links to information on external websites.
What we want from the new site is to keep the file repository for all of our forms, have the ability to have discussion groups or blogs/comments and possibly have a IM/chat feature. All of the companies we have talked to have suggested SharePoint Foundations/ SQL Express which seems like it will do everything we need it to but I was wondering about Yammer. This was presented as a replacement for the SharePoint blogs/conversations. Has anyone integrated Yammer in to a SharePoint deployment and if so how has it worked out for you? A couple of us on the Intranet selection group have tried it out today and so far it seems to do what we need it to but I wanted to get any other experiences.
Another question has to do with hardware. We have about 80 employees and I plan on running this on a VMWare system which is comprised of two Cisco U200 servers and an EMC VNXe SAN for storage. Can you see any issues running SharePoint and SQL Express on a setup like this?
Thanks
