Server 2008 R2 holds APIPA and Static IP on Same NIC

Hello All,

This week I've had an issue where I cannot remove an APIPA from the NIC of my Server 2008 R2 VM. I have a ticket open with VMware regarding an issue with our vCenter Server 5.5 upgrade and we are stuck with them asking us to remove this address before we can move on.

I've tried:

  • Removing and re-adding the E1000 device Networking Adapter from the VM through vSphere.
  • "netsh int ip reset", "netsh winsock reset" VM reboot.
  • "ipconfig /flushdns", "ipconfig /registerdns".
  • NIC removed, re-added, uninstalled, disabled and enabled again from devmgmt.
  • "route delete" all of the 169.254.x.x entries.
  • Firewall and AV disabled
  • And Ran through previous steps again to be sure.

And the machine sill has the 169.254.x.x address.

This server shares our QuickBooks company files and has the AD Lightweight Directory, File and Windows Deployment Services Roles installed. IPv6 disabled from the NIC Properties. Only the static entry is listed in the Advanced TCP/IP properties of the NIC. But the APIPA displays in "ipconfig /all" and the "route print" routing table after reboot. When I ping the host name from the VM it replies with the APIPA number as well.

I've included a picture of what I see when I reboot the VM after the netsh commands. Any ideas on what I could check to clear this address out so I can move forward with my vCenter ticket?

Here is my ipconfig /all:
