Poor Virtual Server Performance

I'm rolling out a new virtual file server and I'm experience very slow access times on the virtual server. Detailed configuration info:

  • windows server 2012 R2 with Hyper V is the host.
  • the virtual file server is windows server 2012 R2.
  • It is configured with dynmaic memory, and 2 vcpu's(host server very beefy unliekly it is a resource issue).
  • The OS VHDX is running on a raid 10 array.
  • The File store is on a separate raid 10 array its a 1TB VHDX mounted to virtual server.
  • I have tested performance with both non teamed and teamed switchs and SR-IOV enabled for direct pass through hasnt made a difference in performance.

When opening an excel document from the Virtual Server it takes approximately 20 Seconds. Open the same file from the same VHDX just mounted to the host server Approximately 4 Seconds. I Know virtual server performance is never equal to physical but this seems outlandishly slow. Any one experience similar issue? Or suggestions of things i might have not checked?
