At my headquarters I have Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition installed. I am looking at putting in a local file server at each of the branch locations with Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition.
The question is: Do I need to have Enterprise Edition located at each location in order to get bi-directional DFS-R RDC to work. I have read a forum where someone states that as long as the server being replicated to has Enterprise it will work, however it will not work the other way (it only works one way). This conflicts with Microsoft Tech net Article in which it states:
To use cross-file RDC, one member of the replication connection must be running an edition of the Windows operating system that supports cross-file RDC. The following table shows which editions of the Windows operating system support cross-file RDC.
I am hoping that someone can clear this up for me. I do not want to purchase and implement standard edition if there are limitations to the DFS-R RDC feature. I would like to you this feature bi-directionally in both directions to each branch. Can this be done if Enterprise Edition is installed at the main headquarters where each branch will be replicating to/from?
