I Looking for an Alternative for DFS NAmespace and Replikation.
Our Setup:
Main Office
- Fileserver Srv 2008 R2(VM) with DFS Namespace and Replication to Branch Office
- approx. 120GB of Data
- another 70GB of "Old" Data on a Qnap NAS that will be accessed for time to time
- VPN Tunnel to Branch Office
Branch Office
- Fileserver Srv 2008 R2(VM) with DFS Replication to Main Office
Now the Namespace works well but the Replikation is not perfect, we also encountered Problems with Users accessing the same file in the Main and Branchoffice at the same time, ending up with different Version or the loss of one Version.
This is a major Problem! we had Data loss and different versions of the Same File and DFS didn`t really bother.
What i would need is
A.) a Software that does Replication and Accesscontrol between both Servers so if the File is opend in one Location its read-only in the other location
Like PeerSync but its 2600€ per Server that is a bit much.
I Looked at Branchcache but it would need Win7 Enterprise edition we only have Win7 Pro on all machines - Chance to upgrade "no way in Hell"
B.) A Fileserver Software/System (Virtual Machine VMWare preffered) that has these functions build in. I would not mind an Linux Server.
Cost is a bit of an issue. So you got any ideas or experiences?
