Have installed Win 8.1 Enterprise/RSAT in Hyper-V on a server 2008 R2 box, joined it to the domain, installed some programs, created some internet shortcuts and shortcuts to programs on the server, customised the start screen layout with those programs/shortcuts then exported the layout as an XML file and deployed it via GPO using RSAT.
With me so far? However, when I log onto the same VM as a user I only get icons on the Start Screen for programs that have been installed, all internet shortcuts or shortcuts that point to programs installed on the server are not showing? The GPO has applied as I can't move the tiles or unpin them and the start layout shows most of the icons I've setup but can't figure out why only icons for installed programs are showing?
I've also setup a redirected desktop and all the icons show there and launch the relevant programs, so at least users can access the icons missing from the start screen using the desktop. I'd just like to know why shortcuts to items that have not been installed by a conventional setup/installer won't show on the start screen?
Anyone come across this issue?
