Domain Alias for non domain computers

Recently I upgraded our two DC/AD/DHCP/DNS server from server 2008 to 2012. Mostly everything went without a hitch except one thing. Prior to the upgrade of the servera all of my non-domain computers could access file shares and other resources by mapping the drive and putting in their AD credentials.

My users could use corp\user for the user name and then their password and all was good. Now after the update corp\user will not work, instead they must use corp.company.com\user in order to log in. I know there is a way to do this but for the life of me I cant remember how or were to find the option.

I tried creating an alias and a DNAME within DNS but they did not work.
