Hello Spiceheads!
I was just reviewing our infrastructure here and am thinking of retiring some of our old server and migrate the roles to another.
In this instance, I am looking at FTP -- currently on Win Server 2k3 (IIS) and VPN -- also on Win Server 2k3 (RRAS).
Since both of these servers are old, out of warranty, and been online since 2004, I would like to point out some options to our management. I prefer to not say we need to buy new hardware.
So, I am seeking advice. Is there any reason why I could not just add the roles to my secondary Domain Controller? or is IIS and or RRAS on a DC not good practice?
More details: Our domain is small in size, 100 machines, 20 user accounts.
DC01= Holds all FSMO roles.
DC02= Replicant of DC01 (without DHCP)
I would be interested to know if installing RRAS for VPN and IIS for FTP on my DC02 is a good idea
