Hyper-V 2008 R2 export, then import issue

I'm recovering from a Sharepoint front end server crash. I am now at a point where I'd like to roll back a bunch of changes I've made and try another approach in the restore process, but here's where I'm at:

New Sharepoint server has about 10 snapshots (will merge and compress if I can't do the following)
I've shut it down and exported the VM to make a copy of the vhd's and snapshots (avhd's)
I tried then using Hyper-V Manager to create a new VM by using the "Import" option.

When I choose the location of the VM in the "Import" process, I get an error saying:

"A server error occurred while attempting to import the virtual machine.
Import failed.
Import failed. Unable to find virtual machine import files under location . You can import a virtual machine only if you used Hyper-V to create and export it.

I did create the VM's using Hyper-V, so I don't know why I'm getting this error?
