I am the IT Manager for a small non profit that currently has 35 staff employed. A majority of the staff use laptops but a lot are now in the process of getting desktops as well. A few users have recently been given access to company issued iPads. We currently have three office sites and we will be expanding to a fourth later this year.
Each site has a Fractional T1 running at 1.216 Mbps at this time. At our HQ, we have full access to the WAN and for our two remote sites we have minimal access to the WAN. Before I make harsh/hasty decisions I wanted to run this by the community to figure out what would be the best procedures to move forward. We are TechSoup approved already.
Our current goals are to:
- Centralize File Storage and provide sharing (too many staff have USB drives and Cloud Storage galore with no control) + Mac Friendly.
- Provide Remote access
- Backup critical systems/servers
- Deploy window images and office images out to pcs to speed up support issues/upgrades
- Consider Visualization options
- Consider AD/DC for authenticating users and locking laptops/desktops down with policies
Our current server is Dell PowerEdge T110,Intel Xeon X3430 2.40GHz, 4 GB ram, 1 TB HDD /w RAID1 and tape backup running Windows Server 2008 R2. Our Intuit QuickBase server is a promoted desktop. The Spiceworks server is also a promoted desktop. Our network is a hodge podge of commercial grade routers/switches and the occasional DD-WRT flashed router.
PS I am in the process of learning Windows Server 2012 (Trainsignal.com) so be gentle ;) I am A+ Certified but definitely in need of more help! I am also considering Pertino and even Copy.com to bring something to the table!
