Have project that I haven't done for years now..
Take a peer to peer network with a server to a domain.
Existing 2008 / R2 Std Server - should be fairly easy..
Was wondering if someone had a good general checklist ..
Biggest piece is user setup and migration.
Transferring user accounts and documents to a Roaming Profile Setup.
This is their desire and I warned that without good policies and rules a roaming policy can bring a single server deployment and network to its knees
- usage is one person may use several different machines needs files / look to be the same across all machines that person logs into... software just needs to be on all machines which should already be done - personal config prefs would have to be re-applied I imagine on each system.
Just looking for some notes and path to follow:
Current plan working evenings to disrupt as little as possible:
- Verify Licenses and CALs
- Create Domain - Setup Admin and recovery accounts
- Create Non-Member Accouts / Set share level access Everyone
- Setup DHCP / DNS on Server
- Remove / Disable Sonicwall DHCP
- Setup UserAccounts and Computer in AD - Clean OUs
- Migrate 1 or 2 machines to domain (file settings transfer wizard?) - SW Script?
- Verify new migrations have files and still work
- Verify all machines can still access
- Migrate the remaining machines
- Setup SonicWall to see planned VLANS 2-3 MAX
- Setup VLANS on Core Switch (hopefully don't have too many edge switches!)
- Thoughts just stopped here -
