Single Domain Controller, multiple subnets

I'm currently testing to divide our network into multiple subnets.

I have created an additional subnet on a vlan which routes to and from the existing subnet absolutely fine, DHCP is relaying from the DHCP server on the DC and DNS is resolving server.domain.local address' just fine.

I've also added the additional subnet under sites and services, enabled wins, added the wins server and type (0x8) to DHCP and checked that Netbios over tcp/ip is enabled.

I have connected a client that is already joined to the domain to the new subnet, however, on start up I get 'Please Wait....' for a ridiculously long amount of time (10 mins+) before the login screen and once logged in, there is a long delay before the desktop appears.

Once I'm that far, no shares are accessible by either GPO mapped drives, \\server, \\server.domain.local or even \\xx.xx.xx.xx.

One DC per subnet is not an option.

I'm not sure where else to look - any suggestions?
