Ok, so I just found out this morning that I can't get my netbios domain name to resolve. My netbios domain name is different than my FQDN. I don't know why, it was what I inherited and with all of the other issues it was a tiny concern. I tried to join a Win7 box to my domain using the shortname: lets say SN but it failed saying it could not resolve that name. So I tried to joing it with the FQDN: lets say fullname.local and it worked.
Server 2003R2 DC with Wins role installed (and was working without issue). I can't get any PC to resolve SN but I can browse/ping by netbios names on ANY other device in the domain. I looked at WINS and I see a few records setup for SN but honestly, I don't know if I have all of the records I need to get it to resolve.
I rna the test and this was my warning:
NetBT name test. . . . . . . . . . : Passed
No NetBT scope defined
[WARNING] You don't have a single interface with the <00> 'WorkStation Service', <03> 'Messenger Service', <20> 'WINS' names defined.
Any ideas?
