I have a domain that has a couple of problems. it has a .net suffix which we do not own. so when on a vpn it resolves the domain name to the internet and shows someone elses website instead of ones hosted internally. we fixed this with some routing and different vpn software. However it also causes problems for exchange and the company name has changed sothe domain need renaming.
I could just rename the domain but i never used the renaming tool and was thinking I would start fresh with a new domain in a new forest. we currently run a 2003 domain with several SQL and one exchange 2003 . we have a new server with windows 2012 standard installed. I have installed AD in a new forest with a new domain. We are also going to be upgrading exchange to 2012 on a new server.
The plan is to create a trust between the 2 domains,migrate all users and computer over to the new domain and get rid of the old one.
I want to keep all of the same ip addressing so what do i do about DNS and DHCP? also at what point do I put exchange on the new domain?
what problems am I going to come across?
