I have been tasked with Installing a new Network for a Small Law Office Firm. Now presently they have already an ISP, Switch and Network In place (WORKGROUP). One of the Lawyers at the firm wants to install his very own private network off of the same ISP modem. The Network will consist of 8 PCs (Windows 8 Desktops) and 1 Server (Windows Server 2012 Standard Ed.) Now from what I understand what I need to do is purchase a new lets say 8 port router that will connect directly to the modem so i can separate and create his personal subnet with its own IP Scheme? What considerations do I have to take under advisement if Im going to make his server the Domain Controller for his private network and handle the DCHP, DNS and File Sever capablities. HOw should i properly subnet each network? If I have the first workgroup network receiving its address assignments from the ISP router then should i turn off DHCP on the router that i buy for the private network and just configure DHCP on the server itself? Will the DHCP responsilities of the server confilict with the ISP Modem? In essence what I am trying to do is create two networks off of one ISP Modem? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have a fair knowledge of networks but have never set one up from scratch like this before.
