Hello everyone,
I have a physical Server 2008 R2 Standard that is being retired and being replaced with a virtual environment. The current server is the AD, DHCP, DNS and file server (about 500GB in shared, mapped drives to users). I am planning to create two new virtual 2012 servers, one for the AD, DHCP and DNS services and one as the File Server.
Situation: The current server is called SERVER and the new ones will be SERVER1 and FS. Since I have some older programs that may be mapped to \\SERVER for access to the file shares, I was considering adding a DNS entry at the end of the migration to point 'SERVER' at the new FS. I'm concerned that something may want to connect to 'SERVER' for DNS/DHCP or other services and the DNS mapping will point them at the FS server now, breaking whatever it was needing. Is that even a concern or am I...
