I have an old file server running Windows 2003 R2 that I'm in the process of retiring, and I'm using DFS replication to move the files to a new Windows 2012 R2 file server cluster.
I've been having issues getting the replication to occur, with the 2012R2 server reporting that RPC is unavailble on the 2003R2 server. However, after some testing, I found that if I disabled Windows Firewall on the 2003R2 server, replication works without issue.
I used DFSDIAG STATICRPC on the server to specify a port for DFSR to always use, and added an exception for that port in the Windows Firewall. I also allowed DFSR.exe through the firewall. Yet every time the Windows Firewall service is running, DFS replication does not occur.
Is there anything else I need to do to allow DFSR through the Windows Firewall on 2003?
