DFS-R new setup replicate locally then move offsite?

Later next month we'll be getting some colo space. To start I'm populating the rack with a DC and File server.

At the office (the only office) I intend to setup DFS-R (maybe a bit of -N too).

My question is. Can I "pre seed" my replication by setting up the new file server locally, then after its complete, change the IP, move it to a new AD site setup for the colocation facility?

I read that DFS may not recognize the new site. The sites will be connected via VPN over 5Mpbs connection.
