Encrypted Files on File Server

Hey there community, so I have a bunch of Windows 7 users that take zip files and extract them to a server (Win2k12).

The files that are inside the zip files are encrypted, (Green file names). Not a big deal - but these files don't get backed up to my off-site due to permissions issues. They cannot be opened by anyone, including domain admins, other than the user who extracted them.

Which means, that as of right now, I have to email the users and ask them to unencrypt the files so they get backed up - and the users don't even generally know that the files are encrypted...

So my question is - is there a way that I am missing that I can take ownership of said files, and then decrypt them? I get access denied errors even when I am logged on as a domain admin.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
