Accessing shares on a server

Hi, sorry if this is obvious but...

Users currently connect to the server through file shares, where they save their work. I don't have any mapped drives on my windows 8 machine, but I can see all the networked devices. I need to have similar access to the shares they're talking about, e.g. H drive, J drive, etc. How do I go about granting myself this?
