I have a school that uses Verizon DSL. The DSL modem hands out IP addresses right now.
192.168.1.179-254
They just installed a domain. CBCS.LOCAL
They installed a DHCP Server/AD/DNS machine.
The issue, is how to allow this server to take over for Verizon DSL modem, and let the server kick in.
The server was set up with a test DHCP scope of 192.168.2.0-254 That's not going to work to communicate with the .1.X scope.. I know.
Machines can get an IP, but obviously no INTERNET since the DSL Modem is 192.168.1.168
The admin didn't want to turn OFF the DHCP server on the modem for fear of losing connection to it and shutting internet off for everyone in the school if he configured wrong.
If DNS is set up on the DHCP/DNS server with the DSL modem as the 'DNS FORWADER'.
Is that correct? And should the DHCP server also have the DSL router as the DNS server in scope options?
