Team Spice,
Just created a 2008 server and I want my various old workstations to be able to access a share...
The server is still in workgroup mode and all the workstations are windows default in various flavors-- (XP, win7, win8) with no standard network settings (except many have the workgroup 'workgroup'... like I said, most have never been on a 'network' other than the internet... but that changes today.
SO--I am sitting on a win8 machine 2 feet away from the new 2008 server and can see the 'share' but cannot access the 'shared folder' despite giving read write access on the server.
I know I need to create accounts or... something... OR change the server to a domain.. active directory or something.... I prefer NOT to have all my users have to create a new account on their local machines... what do?
Any suggestions or a guide to getting old workstations on a new server in a relatively painless manner (to the end user)?
Yours--Hopelessly Lost Server Noob...
