Aliases and SPN's

Hey guys,

I'm currently trying to move an existing file server to a new file server. My plan was to create an alias for any connections that still lookup the old server name. Now I understand there's a problem that older clients using smb v1.0 need a registry value set inplace on the new file server to allow connection with the alias name. That's fine, however where I run into some confusion is if I need to edit SPN's to do this.

During the cut over we do plan on having the original machine alive on the network, but no A record for any dns lookups to get to the machine. The A record will be deleted and the alias to the old name will point to the new file server. Now AD still has all the original SPN's that the original file server has - is there a specific SPN for SMB and UNC paths or does this just rely solely on DNS? My assumption is that Kerberose needs to grant a ticket for SMB permissions, there fore SPN's are going to come into play.

Will I need to remove the SPN's from the old machine and map new SPNs with the alias name to the new file server?

Thanks.
