Windows Server 2003 suddenly stopped communicating over the LAN

I have a strange problem on a Dell R610 running Windows Server 2003 standard Edition.  The server has Windows Firewall (disabled) and McAfee AV + HIPS.  Sunday morning the server rebooted after Microsoft updates and dropped off the LAN.  I can login to the server normally and the NICs are working with link and a small amount of activity.  The server can ping itself, but not the gateway or other devices on the network.  To troubleshoot, I booted into a Linux tool and the hardware works fine outside of Windows.  It appears something is blocking traffic to/from Windows. I backed-out all of the patches that were applied on Sunday, but that didn't help.  The Event Log doesn't have any glaring messages that would indicate the problem.  Corporate has McAfee locked down tight so I cannot stop AV even in Safe Mode.  I don't know how to disable HIPS without the unlock password that is tightly held by someone other than me.  Does anyone out there have any suggestions or compelling thoughts on this problem?
