In the long term (2 years) I will have 6+ virtual servers running either Windows Server 2012 Standard or 2012 Standard R2, on three HP physical servers in a pool.
I currently own 3 licenses for Server 2012 Standard, which gives me 2 vm's per license. However, virtualization with high availability means I could potentially have all 6 Server 2012 vm's on one physical host, albeit temporarily.
If I understand correctly, that means I need to license each physical host for the 6 virtual servers.... yes/no?
Also, are Server 2012 Standard and Server 2012 Standard R2 interchangeable for this licensing?
