I set up a server in our domain to test some backups and to possible run our time clock server software that is ancient but loved by the HR department. I created the server with Windows Server 2012 preview as we were just in a testing stage and weren't sure how much we wanted to spend on this project.
Fast forward 18 months, during 12 of those months I was on Military leave while deployed to Afghanistan. The server running Windows Server 2012 was not maintained and essentially bricked. Now in Active Directory I keep getting errors because this server (that was apparently elevated to a DC as well) cannot be contacted.
How do I go about deleting or removing this server and its domain without really messing things up? I am really wishing I had never joined it to our domain in the first place and ran it as a standalone...lesson learned
I am feeling way out of my depth and could use some advice.
