OK this follows on from a previous post about getting an image of a problem server. So i now have managed to get the image booting (had to use HyperV to boot the disk2vhd file then used acronis to image the VM. Then used the Universal Restore onto a VM using VMware Workstation).
Anyway i have the image and this is the issues and seems to doing the same in the VM. It takes forever to boot and once in takes forever to do anything e.g. open computer manager, my computer, msconfig etc.
So this is what i've done so far. Booted into safe mode and all seems fine. so tried a few different boot methods and this is what i've found so far
SafeMode - Boot to Login 5mins, To Desktop 50secs-1min, double click my computer 5-6secs
Using MSConfig
Diagnostic mode - Same as safe mode
Selective boot - all on apart from any service - Same as safe mode.
Selective Boot - all on including all NONE Microsoft services - same as safe mode.
So looks like its a Microsoft service that's causing the problems. Problem is i've tried going through them only starting the Microsoft services one by one but i'm getting very mixed results. One minute it will start like in safe mode but when i start clicking stuff it seem to have issues like slow operation etc. So i'm not sure what is causing this.
Has anyone got any recommendation on trouble shooting problems in server edition. I've tried starting enough services so i can uninstall some programs like Acronis Agent, Symantec AV, Backup Exec just in case one of these are causing the problems. This server has been like this for a long time appartently and as it still back ups the databse dumps and Ctritrix still works they have left it. But we now need to deploy some new Servers to help keep up with the demand.
