After upgrading from SBS2003 to SBS2011, when a user tries to open a network file from a Windows Explorer search they get the following error (this particular error is an Adobe Acrobat error because it was trying to open a .pdf):
"There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found."
Opening a .txt file from Windows Search results in the following error:
"Cannot find the \\SERV01\Documents\Temp\test.txt file.
Do you want to create a new file?"
However, if the users browse to the location of the file in Windows Explorer (their N:\ drive), they can open the file. This happens with all file types (not just .pdf or .txt files).
Network drives are mapped via group policy.
I have deleted the Search index and re-indexed the files but it hasn't fixed the problem.
Interestingly, it doesn't happen on the SBS server (even if I map the drive and search through the drive mapping (N:\)) or the remote desktop server though.
The same thing happens with an Enterprise Admin account logged onto a PC, so it's not file permissions. Possibly, something to do with the group policy that is applying to the PCs but the only changes to group policy are the drive mappings based on security group membership.
