We currently have Windows Storage Server 2012 Workgroup as the OS for our company's fileshare. I'm looking into disaster recovery strategies, but wanted to create some sort of redundancy and failover internally first.
The DFS namespace was created on our 2012 file server. Am I able to utilize DFS-R with a 2008 R2 server? Is it an issue to use 2008 R2 and 2012? If our main file server was to fail, I'd like to at least have an on-site failover.
My idea was to have two servers on-site, and if something major happened, we'd have our data backups somewhere else, whether it was in a co-lo or in the cloud. We haven't crossed that bridge yet.
