I have a very frustrating problem with Server 2008 R2 used as a print server and printers that exist in a remote subnet. I cannot install a local print server for the sake of getting these remote printers to function. Each print using standard port 9100 printing and PCL 6 drivers. I can get them to print just fine if I use Server 2003 as a print server.
The odd thing is that the Windows 2008 server logs no errors. No errors show up in the print spooler and the job gives every indication that it has cleared successfully. The printer itself also shows no errors and gives every indication via its web management that a page was printed.
Yet, the user local to the printer tells me that nothing comes out. All that occurs is a momentary change in status display, showing that something is spooling up, then nothing.
I can print to the printer just fine using a Windows 7 workstation that is on the local subnet with the printer. Ultimately what I require is that thin client users be able to print via terminal server which is on a different subnet then them.
There just isn't that many variables to setting up a print server. I've never had this much trouble until trying to get these remote printers setup.
Any ideas I can try?
Print Server is Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 SP1
Terminal Server is Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 SP1
Printer is HP Pro 400 M425dn using HP Universal Print Driver v. 5.8.0
Also tried Canon LaserClass 830i using UFRII LT driver v. 14
Neither the Canon or the HP want to print properly over the WAN with Server 2008 involved as the print server. Both will function normally just by switching to a 2003 print server which is not my objective. I need the 2008 server to work.
Thanks!
