Domains

I have a new server (Server 2008r2) that I have already joined to the "domain.local" which the DC for domain.local is server 2003 and is the DHCP/DNS and WINS. "Domain.local" has 6 workstations joined to it via workgroup. Is it possible/ how much will break if I disjoin the new server (server 2008) from "domain.local" and set it up on a new domain and then set it up as the DNS/DHCP and AD and then join these 6 work stations to this new domain. I just want to confirm that the step of removing the server from the "domain.local" will work.
