I have a server with windows 2012 on it. I have two disks raid 5 for the C drive with the OS.
I have 4 disks in a raid 10 for storage. On that volume I have only two partitions, D drive for Data and V drive for Virtual PCs. I have 530gb free.
I right click D drive, extend and enter in 204800mb so I can add 200gb to the D drive. I get the message: "The operation you selected will convert the selected basic disk(s) to dynamic disk(s). If you convert the disk(s) to dynamic, you will not be able to start installed operating systems from any volume on the disk(s). (except the current boot volume). Are you sure you want to continue?
My question is why is this trying/forcing me to switch the disk to dynamic? Is it a size limit? Because as a test I created a 3rd partition of 100gb, extended it to 200gb and no issues. I have since deleted that.
So it seems like my only option (using windows to extend) is to make it dynamic. Would that affect my hyper-v virtual machine on that disk at all?
