How to link a UNC path to a new server

We recently migrated our fileservers to a NetApp solution and in the process, changed the names of our shares from "fileserv" to "netapp01". Is there an easy way to create a DNS pointer or something so that we don't have to update all the programs that are still pointing to fileserv? I would like to create a pointer so that if someone types in //fileserv/folder/doc that it actually goes to //netapp01/folder/doc instead. Is this possible or am I over/under thinking it?

Thanks
