We're slowly upgrading our environment and have introduced 2012 R1 server into our environment. We have two Win dows Server 2003 R2 DC's, both are GC's, DHCP & DNS servers, and one is the FSMO. These are the only roles these server have. They are not file servers. We still have some 2003 application servers and can't go to any higher forest/domain level yet. However, we want to replace these older 2003 R2 DC's with 2012 DC,s. I've been reading about adding a 2012 DC to a 2003 forest/domain and most of it seems fairly straight forward; however, some other articles make mention of an intermediate step of migrating the 2003 R2 DC's to 2008 or 2008 R2 and then to 2012.
I'm desperately trying to find/ determine exactly what I need to do to accomplish this. I've verified that the forest/domain functional levels are 2003. Does anyone have a step-by-step procedure for this?
To recap I need to replace my two Win 2003 R2 DC's, that are GC, DNS, DHCP and one being the FSMO, with Win server 2012 R1, making these new 2012 DC's GC, DNS, DHCP and one will be the new FSMO, all in a 2003 forest/domain.
I know similar questions have been asked, but I've had to add my details to the questions.
Thanks in advance.
