We ran into an issue with our print server. We are no longer able to send print jobs to the server from any user or the server itself. Here are some of the things I've noticed that I believe are the cause of the issue, but I do not currently have the knowledge to piece it together.
Windows server 2012
Here's what I'm seeing in my event log:
The document Print Document, owned by *user* failed to print on printer *printer*. Try to print the document again, or restart the print spooler.
Data type: RAW. Size of the spool file in bytes: 925. Number of bytes printed: 0. Total number of pages in the document: 1. Number of pages printed: 0. Client computer: ADMINLADMIN-BH. Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 5. Access is denied.
After researching the issue, I found that it might have something to do with users not having the correct permissions to write to the spooler. This has generally worked for most people, but I feel that our server has some additional stuff wrong with it. After giving my user account full control I am still unable to print from my station or the server itself.
The Net Admin promoted this server as a primary controller on Friday. When we came into the office we found that no one could use the printers on that server. We also have another print server as well, but up until Friday when he promoted it everything worked fine. This morning we demoted it in hopes to revert the changes and get back to normal. This caused the server to be placed back into a work group. We then rejoined it and now we're seeing those errors.
I personally believe that the permissions on the entire server are screwed up because none of the security permissions are setup for domain administrators to have any control. Unfortunately I am not experienced enough to articulate anything without additional questions you might be able to ask.
