...so last night the server decided to reboot for some odd reason and when I checked my servers first thing the A.M. this one was showing down.
Got ahold of client and she said, "it's at the green catepillar, Microsoft Corporation" loading screen. I told her I'd be right there.
Get there and hard reboot it. Stays at that loading screen for eternity. Reboot again, RAID 10 status shows OK, everything pre-Windows seems alright looking.
Figure I would try safe-mode. Boots fine and I notice it has failed to install some updates and that it was reverting, it reboots itself. Goes to catepillar and stays there again.
Go back into safe-mode, says it is reverting from failed updates again but after it is done, this time goes to Ctrl+Alt+Del screen. I log in OK.
Check event viewer, nothing too abnormal. Doesn't give me any insight. I did msconfig and disabled any service/startup item that wasn't necessary and rebooted again.
STUCK ON GREEN CATEPILLAR
Now...without restoring from a backup, anybody have an idea? Right now I am running a chkdsk which is taking forever so I thought I would ask you guys...seems some Windows Update botched this thing royally.
I can't do a system restore from Safe Mode, I do have Shadow Protect backups from Monday, no recent Windows Image backup(last one from 12/14/13
I figured the thing would BSOD eventually and give me a sign as to where to look next but it literally sits there forever and ever. HDD activity light doesn't blink after a few seconds of Windows trying to boot.
Thanks guys.
